The SSSI Technology Center recently
upgraded several aspects of its presentation capabilities in
conjunction with its Second Annual Technology Day.
A wireless network was installed giving instructors the capability
of leading a class without the space-consuming cables of a traditional
network. Small groups of trainees can now confer over a problem
assigned by the instructor, and still use the computer assigned
to them individually. There is no more crowding around a single
machine to problem-solve in a group mode.
Overhead projection capabilities now free an instructor from
remaining on a single side of the classroom during a slideshow
or other presentation. This increases instructor visibility to
the class and allows the instructor to more closely monitor the
facial expressions of a trainee, a sure indicator of learning
progress, or the lack of it.
Technology Center field sites were enhanced recently by the
deployment of a "smart' instructional board. Presenters
can write on it like a normal keyboard, and then print off a
color copy of the screen content or place it into a file. This
technology ensures that every thought expressed in a meeting
or presentation is permanently recorded.
